It may be early in the ski season, but did you know that there are 8 resorts already that have snow and are open?
Whether you are the one who loves all of the outdoor fun, or prefers to take it more leisurely back at the place you are staying, I thought I would look at 3 places you might consider to stay this ski season.
Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies :

Lake Louise Ski resort is the biggest in North America, so there is a lot of choice, not only where to ski, but also where to stay. If you are looking for a little luxury on your ski holiday this season, might I suggest the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise hotel. It’s nestled at the bottom of soaring mountains, with a beautiful lake, as you can see above. It’s located in Alberta’s Banff National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is recognised globally for progressive environmental stewardship and responsible tourism.
It offers everything from beautiful rooms, suites with open fires and stunning views of lake Louise and a luxury spa. With world-class skiing in the winter, scenic hiking and canoe activities in the summer, a kid’s camp and amazing dining experiences.
Of course, there is an endless supply of outdoor recreational activities, including downhill skiing and snowboarding, cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and horse-drawn sleigh rides in the winter … and even hiking, canoeing and horseback riding. Phew!
Mammoth Mountain in California

They have had lots of snow recently, boasting 20-30 inches in some places, and 6 of the ski runs are open already, so this would make a great destination for someone wanting to ski early in the season.
One cool place to stay that stood out for me, was the The Westin Monache Resort, Mammoth Hotel. It is ranked first in the area to stay at on Trip Advisor, and the Westin Monache Resort, Mammoth is ranked as one of world’s best hotels on Expedia Insiders’ Select.
The photograph above is of the lobby area, which is lit by hundreds of beautiful candles. It is close to the village of Mammoth so you can experience great shopping and nightlife too. This hotel has a signature Heavenly Bed which guarantees a restful sleep and a Heavenly Bath experience, great to ease those tired ski muscles, and it promises a renewing experience with oversized bathrooms and invigorating shower.
Les Cerniers, Switzerland

I couldn’t write this post without including the Whitepods in Les Cerniers. They haven’t as yet had fresh snow, but they are just so cool I couldn’t help but include them.
It’s on a whole other level of glamping. Whitepod describe themselves as an eco-luxury camp that offers accommodation in NASA-tested hi-tech tents. I’ve never seen a tent like this, the pods look so cosy with their own wood-burning stove inside, but from the outside … well, judge for yourself.
With food available at the mountain chalet nearby, it offers a remote and romantic destination with all of the comfort and quality you could desire. I must stay here, I am most definitely adding it to my bucket list.
Les Cerniers has its own private ski slope, with over 700m of vertical 7km of pistes, so you have it all to yourself!
We hope you like our suggestions – do you have a favourite stylish ski resort?
Those yurts look so cool! Skiing has come a long way since I first started 25 years ago.. (eek)!
Lake Louise is probably the pinnacle of luxury skiing – I was lucky enough to spend a Christmas there prior to having kids, and it really is the most special experience.
Helen recently posted…Travel: Why food might your first priority at Beaches Resorts
Oh I know Helen, they really do. I was chatting to someone, who stayed in a glass igloo at the weekend. It sounded amazing!
